Canon continues to quietly slim down the EF lineup

An article from petapixel caught my eye, and it discusses the narrowing of the EF lineup.

First of all, I think there's more to this than just Canon wishing to reduce the EF lineup down to what is absolutely necessary. The combination of Canon wanting people to move to the RF lineup, and also the significant difficulty in manufacturing because of supply chain issues have caused any plans to be accelerated.

It's actually even worse than what PetaPixel is stating, as if you look on Canon Japan's website, they bluntly state here's our list of discontinued lenses, which contains, well, most of the EF lens library.

Currently, Canon Japan has 27 EF lenses, 6 EF-S lenses, and 7 EOS-M lenses available. Everything else is on a page called "生産終了した商品情報" which machine translates into "Discontinued Product Information".

Now some of the lenses on that page are arguably really discontinued. However, there are zooms such as;

EF 24-70mm F4L IS USM
EF 24-105 F3.5-5.6 IS STM

and primes such as;

EF 14mm F2.8L II USM
EF 24mm F2.8 IS USM
EF 28mm F2.8 IS USM
EF 40mm F2.8 STM
EF 85mm F1.2L II USM
EF 100mm F2 USM
EF 135mm F2L USM
EF 200mm F2L IS USM
EF 200mm F2.8L II USM
EF 400mm F4 DO IS II USM
EF 400mm F5.6L USM
EF 500mm F4L IS II USM
EF 800mm F5.6L IS USM
EF 180mm F3.5L Macro USM

It's a stunningly (and depressing) long list of EF lenses and some of them are pretty recent as well.

Curiously, EOS-M has been left alone, sans the EF-M 18-55mm which was discontinued a while ago after Canon released the 15-45mm lens for the EOS-M. No other EOS-M lenses have been discontinued.

As of right now, Canon has more EOS-M lenses for sale than EF-S. Given the rumors of its demise - I would have expected at least some of the EOS-M lenses to make the list if Canon was going to shut down the mount.
