Richard CanonNews / Thursday, October 7, 2021 / Categories: Canon Patents Canon Patent Application: Small, Fast, Shutter Assembly Even though I think mechanical shutters in the Canon world are soon to be extinct, it's curious to see Canon still work on some future shutters. This patent application is trying to solve the problem of making a fast shutter, small and also doesn't require a larger battery to power it. Could it end up in future small RF cameras (or even gasp, an EOS-M such as what is demonstrated in the embodiments?) anything is possible. It could take a while before global shutters simply replace everything. This may also be interesting reading to some of you because it shows the correlation between shutter efficiency/speed and battery power. As we have seen on cameras such as the R5, as the battery drops, so does the shutter speed.
