Canon Patent Application: Camera IBIS Unit In this patent application, we find Canon describing how to improve an IBIS (in body image stabilization) unit. We received this tip (thanks) tonight and were surprised. We missed this during our review of the patents yesterday. They are looking to create high efficiency in the movement force, and to improve the linearity of the magnetic circuit for position detection. Both of which are important to moving a large full frame sensor quickly and with a high degree of accuracy. Problems of the stage device as the blur correction mechanism of such an image pickup device include high efficiency in driving force generation and linearity improvement of a magnetic circuit for position detection. In response to this problem, Patent Document 2 discloses a configuration in which three magnets are arranged for each driving force generation unit to form a magnetic circuit using the concept of the Halbach array (hereinafter referred to as “Halbach magnetic circuit”). it is possible to achieve high efficiency in generating driving force and to improve the linearity of the magnetic circuit for position detection The exploded mechanical views are extremely detailed. And we've seen similar layouts in other IBIS patents, leading further credence to the assumption that what we're seeing here is the IBIS unit that will go into Canon's next series of EOS RF cameras.
