Canon Patent Application: Canon APS-C Mirrorless prime lenses

We have discovered a bunch of fast APS-C prime lenses that Canon has applied for the patent on. I could probably speak for many EOS-M users by suggesting that these would be a welcomed addition to the EOS-M system.  While two are right around the excellent 32mm 1.4 that Canon has already released, the 24mm 1.4 would certainly be an interesting lens.

The main ideas in this patent application are to come up with lenses that have small focus groups to allow for rapid movement more associated with mirrorless cameras.  Canon states;

It is the object of the present invention to provide an optical system which has small aberration fluctuation during focusing, high optical performance over the entire object distance, and easy to perform focusing at high speed.

We have in this patent application;

  • 30mm 1.4
  • 35mm 1.4
  • 24mm 1.4

The details are shown below;

focal length 29.19
