Canon Patent Application: Canon EF APS-C kit lenses

With all the buzz being about Canon RF Mirrorless, and all comments that the APS-C "cheap camera" dying, Canon APS-C cameras aren't getting much love these days.

In this patent application, Canon is attempting to make the kit lenses, lighter and smaller.  They also identify a 15-45mm kit lens that I'm sure would be welcomed as well from the less wide 18-55mm.

Canon's summary from the patent application;

In recent years, in order to ensure the portability of an imaging optical system used in an imaging apparatus such as a lens-interchangeable still camera, it is required that the entire system be lightweight. In addition, for use in various shooting scenes, it is required to be a zoom lens that has a high optical performance over the entire zoom range with a relatively high magnification that covers a wide focal length range, including a standard angle of view.

Various embodiments are shown below;

focal length 18.55 34.00 53.35
F number 3.55 4.60 5.85 field
angle 36.36 21.89 14.36

lens total length 97.50 113.37 129.36
