It seems like Fujifilm has opted out of PhotoKina 2020, making another high prominent camera vendor that has decided that a May Photokina just really isn’t for them. That makes 5 major camera makers that have decided not to come to PhotoKina 2020; Nikon, Leica, Fujifilm and Olympus. You have to wonder if Photokina’s decision to change the date from September which nicely fit into release plans of the major camera companies who all announce products in late August to early September, to an awkward late May really hurt their standing with the camera companies. It really seems that was a decision that failed to heed "know thy customer". Photokina recently put out a press announcement, that yes, they are still relevant from the three remaining vendors of cameras; Panasonic: For many years, photokina has been the ideal platform for us to present our product innovations. The Imaging industry is facing big changes and challenges these days. In 2020, we will also be coming to Cologne with big expectations in the new photokina format and are looking forward to contributing with great innovations. Canon: As the imaging industry is at a significant turning point, we expect photokina to be a leading show of the worldwide photo and imaging industry. Canon is eager to introduce new products and concept products at photokina, thereby contributing to the industry’s success. Sony: Sony is very glad to be part of Photokina again next year.
