BCN weekly report for March 18-24th: The EOS RP sputters The first real week that the EOS RP was released in Japan has been reported in BCN weekly. The EOS RP was shipping on March 14th, and the reporting period for BCN was March 18-24th. The EOS RP fails to show up in the top 50 of sales, clearly showing that sales are sluggish for the new entry to full frame mirrorless. In good news for Canon, the M50 continues its mirrorless dominance after facing stiff competition from the Sony A6400 during its initial release period. Canon overall holds the top 4 sales positions with the Kiss X9 and X9i and the EOS Kiss M or M50. Nikon continues to be slow in Japan, not appearing in the top 50 with either the Z6 or the Z7. It appears that the initial launches of Canon and Nikon's mirrorless full frame is meeting stiff resistance from consumers. However to be fair, both cameras have a very small ecosystem to draw on, and in a lot of cases, people are waiting for the lens systems to be more complete before buying into the systems. Still, though, it must be somewhat of a disappointment to both Canon and Nikon who certainly value domestic marketshare.
