Canon Patent Application: EF-M kit zoom improvements

This patent application discusses a variety of kit zooms for the EF-M mount.  This patent is mostly trying to achieve excellent optical performance, and a low amount of vignetting in the extremities.

image pickup optical system used in an image pickup apparatus (camera), there is a demand for a zoom lens having a short overall length, a compact overall system, and high optical performance over the entire zoom range. Also, if the angle of incidence of the off-axis light beam on the image pickup element is large, shading (color shading) and lack of peripheral light amount occur, so that it is required to be a zoom lens having good telecentricity on the image side. 

The kit zooms mentioned in this patent application are the;

  • 16-50mm 3.5-5.6
  • 15-45mm 3.5-6.3
  • 18-130mm 3.4-5.6
  • 18-200mm 3.5-6.3
  • 15-130mm 3.5-6.3
