Canon has now come out with the R10 and the R7 and, two new RF-S lenses.

A lot of my previous commentary was based upon rumors and some of them were very solid and reliable that Canon was going to issue an APS-C camera with no cropped (RF-S) lenses.

That obviously turned ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2547</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

Looking closely at the RF 800 and the RF 1200 lenses

When these lenses were first announced I was rather interested in them. After we have all the details, I’m inclined to call these lenses something not too complimentary to Canon.

Canon doing things like this, makes me feel like I have an obligation to say something. Canon’s latest trends of doing things like this concern me.

Essentially these lenses are re-wrapped RF lenses 400mm F2.8L and 600mm F4L with some 2x optics added internally to the lens. For that, you need to pay an ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2524</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

Canon's thorny problem keeps getting worse

BCN for November showed a complete Canon dominance, with the top 2 positions held by Canon and 6 out of the top 10. Now granted as we have said many times in here, BCN is just a reflection of the Japanese camera market. But per capita, Japan spends more on cameras than any other region that CIPA tracks. I saw CanonRumors's article on the year of the camera coming next year and thought this article has some relevance to the discussion.

We've had a pretty good track record in the past, so here are our thoughts on what is coming "soonish" from Canon.

Originally, this article was about the R1, and then it turned out to be a small book covering in some detail the future cameras that we ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2431</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

The Nikon Zfc and Canon

I don't usually talk about other cameras that often just because, well, I mean this is a Canon site.

However of all the companies, I pay attention to, the first and foremost is Nikon. The reason? Canon usually follows Nikon's lead if they do something first. The two companies tend to watch each other closely, tend to leapfrog each other, as they have been in competition for decades now. A case could be made that Canon should be watching Sony more than Nikon, but I think it's just in ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2349</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

Canon's new stacked sensors and what this all means

With the announcement of the R3, Canon has announced they have jumped around 2 or 3 Sony sensor generations and are now capable of producing stacked sensors, and with the rumored Cinema cameras, it's obvious that Canon plans to quickly roll them out - everywhere.

While this from the outside may look unimportant for Canon, it provides an increasing amount of pressure for Canon to announce something for the R1, and since the Z9 may not be coming out until 2022, the pressure ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2273</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

Opinion: Canon is ceasing APS-C systems

A rumor (and really one of many) has suggested that the EOS-M will go away in 2021 or at least soon. I think the better statement is that it certainly seems as if Canon is actively discontinuing APS-C all together. This gets skipped over because the larger story is that of the EOS-M system. This opinion is entirely based upon these rumors being true and what Canon may or may not be thinking.

While I have doubts that the rumors are true, let’s assume they are and the following as rumored ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2223</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

Canon North America Professional Services and EOS RF what's happening?

I was looking at the Canon CPS Programs in both Canada and the USA, and I came up with one logical conclusion which stunned me.

First, let us briefly talk about the two programs. Canon USA goes by a point score with various lenses and camera bodies that have different points rewarded for each variety of camera or lens. Canon Canada simplifies it and states that you simply need a minimum number of what they deem "professional" cameras and L series lenses. Both programs sound good and ...

<dc:identifier>bae2b87f-50b7-4b10-b617-288436724cb1-2216</dc:identifier>

Richard CanonNews

What's coming up in 2021 for Canon

We did one of these up last year, and actually had a pretty good success rate with it, so I decided to put it all out there again this year, just to see how wrong I can possibly be. I suspect, very wrong. As with last year, this is my own thoughts, with some logic leaps sprinkled in.
