Its $1699 MSRP puts it closer to the R6 Mark II.  The EOS R8 is cheaper than this camera, but less features as well. 

 One area the EOS R8 wins hands down, is on portability and size, which are far more important to people like me. The R6 Mark III was expected this year, but that's not a competitor to this camera either.
