Canon 1DX Mark III sensor megapixels

A few rumors have swirled around in regards to how many megapixels in the 1DX Mark III.

One source claims he is 80% sure that the 1DX Mark III will have 24MP, while another source claims that he's 100% the 1DX Mark III will have 20MP (the same as the 1DX Mark II).

I think Canon is most likely testing multiple different versions of the 1DX Mark III, and also waiting to see what Nikon comes out with for the D6.  They know already that Sony has a 24MP sensor, and if the D6 also upgrades to 24MP, then it stands to reason that Canon will as well. It could also explain multiple rumors stating different sensor resolutions.  It could very well be that both are in the field as part of Canon's ongoing field testing for the 1DX Mark III.

So what did we find out? Well not much!  I think it' still safe to say that it's somewhere around 20 to 28MP, and most likely Canon hasn't even decided which yet.
