This is a patent application that describes a rather complex 50mm F1.4 full frame lens, with a pretty short back focus distance. Even though I think the back focus distance may be too short, I also think it's doable. Will we see this lens? It's really just a matter of time that we'll see this one or another optical derivative. This patent application is curious "all about the 50mm F1.4" no other embodiments, which is actually, fairly unique. Basically in this patent application, Canon is looking to decrease the weight of the focus elements so they can speed up the auto focus. If I had to guess they want to put nano-USM on this.
