Canon Patent Application: Large LCD Mirrorless

In this patent application, Canon discribes a system where they are using large LCD on the back of the camera, replacing the wheel that exists on the back.   Ridges in a circle assist with tactile feedback to tell you when you are at the area of the LCD panel when you need to simulate turning the wheel or selecting a wheel feature.

By having more than one ring Canon feels they can detect which ring your finger is moved along, and adjust the camera accordingly.

Interestingly this embodiment that we are showing that would also show you a GUI representation on the LCD panel as you move your finger around the circle, and also pop it up in the viewfinder as well.

Since it shows it in the viewfinder, this can really only be a mirrorless camera with an EVF.
