How to downgrade your firmware version I've been watching several Facebook groups dedicated to the R5 and R6, and many users are struggling with the 1.5.0 firmware patch that Canon put out. However, some users are not having problems at all. Needless to say, the ability to revert back to the prior firmware could be very important for those struggling right now. This seems to work on any dual card canon camera - as someone in the comments mentioned it worked with their 5D Mark II. KH Cams details the steps needed to flip the firmware back to the prior version. Put firmware v1.5.0 on one SD card and v1.4.0 on another. Insert the SD card with 1.5.0 into the camera Go to the firmware update in the menu Press okay on the update, and as quickly as possible open the battery door on the camera or battery grip Insert the SD (Or CFExpress) card with firmware 1.4.0 Close the battery door to turn the camera back on The camera will automatically start ‘updating’ from 1.5.0 to 1.4.0 Please keep in mind that this is a "trick" and most likely not officially sanctioned by Canon. With any of these types of procedures, there is a small risk of damaging your camera. Please use these instructions at your own risk.
