New Rumor: Canon to release a Canon R5c this year

According to a new rumor from Canon Rumors, Canon is going to come out with a cinema R5 camera, dubbed the R5c.  The R5 has been well regarded for its video features, sans limitations imposed because of heat buildup inside of the camera.

This R5c is going to be a slightly larger (and we assume heavier as well) camera body that will feature active cooling. This, of course, is the same that Panasonic did with their S1H, and all of Canon's Cinema Cameras are also active cooled.  

We would hope several other things get put into this camera;

• Removal of the 30-minute time limit as it's not even an issue these days (there is no more additional import tax in Europe for video cameras).
• Thermal throttling options - allowing the camera to get hotter than normal, which is perfectly fine for some that aren't handholding the camera.
• Dual CFExpress Cards so that video can be backed up onto two cards at the same time.

Otherwise, this camera is expected to have the same sensor, and video recording options, including some of the best high-quality 4K footage you can record on an ILC these days.

So where the R5's duty cycle is most likely around 75 to 90% stills and 10-25% video given its heat threshold, the R5c should allow ratios to be flipped and be the premier video camera for wedding photographers that do more video than stills.

Is this the "exciting" new camera that was mentioned earlier? It could be, but given the R5s and the R5c would share many features, it stands to reason that Canon could do more than one at a time - as long as supply chain issues have been firmly resolved.
