Rumor: Canon EOS R5 Announcement Date

We had long expected the actual announcement and the nitty-gritty details of the EOS R5 to be slated sometime before Photokina was supposed to have launched this year.  The rumors have all said that the R5 will be available before the Olympics which of course, was another clue that a May or June release was coming.

A new Facebook post from a German retailer says "Experience the new Canon EOS R5 live on May 16, 2020".  All I can say, that they almost got this right, as my birthday is May 17. ;)

However, this date can't be the actual announcement date. Chances are very good that the announcement will actually happen a few days before this live event since I doubt the EOS R5 will be announced on the weekend.  I would conservatively suggest that a May 14-15th date is when we'll actually have the official announcement. Because it's probably not.

Foto Hamer has since replied to his posting with the following;

Hello guys, you could see the content and information about the live streams of the testival online. It is NOT the official launch of the EOS R5 by Canon! It is a LIVE workshop with a Canon product expert on the Canon R series and in this context it represents the previously known information of the R5. There will be no demonstration of the camera and, to our knowledge, no information that is not yet known will be published. Nevertheless, the workshop is of course exciting.

No, what would be exciting is the announcement of the R5.

If Canon is running true to the announcement schedules around what would have been this year's events, then there should be a major announcement before May 27 which was when Photokina was to start.  However, Canon could have wanted to announce the R6 at Photokina has well especially since we have started to see certifications for the R6 now.
