Canon full frame mirrorless to be called EOS-R?
A new rumor seems to suggest that Canon's entry into full frame mirrorless will have the designation of EOS-R.
The latest rumor also suggests that it will have a new mount, called an RF mount, however no new lenses being announced.

- Name: Canon EOS R
- RF Mount (New mount, possible EF compatibility?)
- No reports of new “RF” lenses being announced alongside the body.
- Similar ergonomics to the EOS M50
- Slightly larger body than the EOS M50
- Will compete with the Sony A7 III & Nikon Z6
- 24mp or 28mp (Two different reports)

This information is curious, and we are wondering if it's really an EF-Mount II, that will accept new "RF" lenses or old "EF" lenses, that way Canon would not have to release new lenses with the launch of the new system, but could release optimized lenses as time goes on. We have seen quite a few patent applications of the last few months dealing with the switching of the lens mount against two different types of lens protocols. This may be something in which we're seeing here.
The SL2 is barely any larger than an M50 - and that's with a fully mechanical mirrorbox, and pentamirror viewfinder. So while it may be difficult to see an EF II or RF mount with EF compatibility also in a M50 sized body, it's certainly not impossible.
It has continued to amaze me just how hard it is to get concrete information on this camera or camera system with less than 7 days to announcement.
