Canon Patent Application - Dual Pixel Sensor Improvements This patent application deals specifically with dual pixel AF sensors (where the pixel is split apart for phase detect AF capablity) and improving the waveguides so that the AF sensor accuracy is increased. This patent goes heavily into the "methods of manufacturing" the improvement, detailing layer by layer how the image sensor is fabricated. There's a good chance that this is one in which Canon is attempting to seriously do. Will it be a significant change? probably not, but each one of these improvements added up can be something that we can certainly see.
