Canon to announce the EOS R3

According to Nokishita, Canon is going to announce (or give a development announcement) an EOS R3.  The image supplied is that of the R3, which shows a mirrorless camera with an integrated vertical grip similar to the EF mount 1 series camera bodies.

It stands to reason that Canon will announce a sports camera before the Olympics this year. It's most likely the worst kept secret out there.  Canon always attempts to have a big showing for the Olympic Games in terms of cameras and lenses. Now that we know that the 400mm and 600mm super-telephoto are coming out shortly, it stands to reason that a professional sports camera in the RF mount will come as well.

Why the R3 versus calling it the R1? It could be that this camera is not meant to be the 1 series camera body but like like what the EOS-3 was to the EOS-1 and EOS-1v.  We can see that there is a button profile on the left hand side of the camera, making it likely that this camera conforms to 1 series ergonomics.

We have little other information at this time, but like you all, are excited about what Canon is going to announce soon.

More to come..
