Prices emerge for the Canon RF lenses coming out next week

Prices have emerged from Canon Rumors for the three previously announced Canon RF lenses that are due to be released finally next week.

Canon Rumors reports that also the prices were originally in Thai Baht, so there is some import taxation, and other factors involved that wouldn't necessarily occur for US street pricing.  However, even with that, the price in USD may well be in the following ranges;

  • Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM 82600 THB ~ $2199-$2499 USD, shipping in October.
  • Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM 82600 THB – $2199-$2499 USD, shipping in October.
  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM 93500 THB – $2399-$2799 USD, shipping in December.

Canon USA though has the ability to set their own prices somewhat so using direct currency exchange can be a poor indicator.

The prices seem steep, and even if we compare them to the EF counterparts, for the most part, they are more expensive, with the RF 70-200 2.8L being significantly more expensive;

Now, noted, the 24-70mm 2.8L USM, and the 16-35mm 2.8L USM, are not quite a fair comparison because they don't have IS, and the 16-35mm isn't 15mm which is the case for the RF equivalent. So there are additional premiums that are going to be added on there.

Just to re-assert; a word of caution.  Since these prices are rumored, and also since these prices are also rumored in another currency - while they are a guidline, they are an approximate guideline.  That all being said, Canon is announcing on Tuesday night (EST), so we'll know the real information very soon.
