Canon USA Increases Prices

In a move that surprises no one (at least I hope not), Canon has decided to increase the prices of it's cameras and lenses. We discussed tariffs back in April, and yes, it seems to be happening now.  Most items seemed to have increased around $200-$400, but the oddest had to be the EOS-R3 which increased from $3999 to $5399.

Canon USA's Store showed the new price increases on cameras and lenses on June 22, 2025.  It would logically be the first store in the USA that would reflect new prices.  Some stores are still holding off on the price increases, even though stores are placing orders at new prices. The increases were in the range of an increase of $50 per lens or camera to a price increase of typically 7-8%, which was likely due to a new 10% tariff on Japanese imports since Canon produces most of its products in Japan.

There were reports that the price increases could have taken place as early as April 21 or April 28, 2025 but that seemed to have been put on hold by the reduction down to 10% and also current inventory levels in the USA. Canon had reportedly messaged their major dealers informing them of the pending increases.

Check out Prices at B&H PhotoWe anticipate that the nation-wide impact would be even greater toward the last half of 2025, because of how long the inventory of previous prices would last. Items were nearly shipped with pre-order price included, including the Canon EOS R50 V and some lenses as well, but once the new inventory is in stock that would be subject to the increased prices due to tariffs.

In short, it's a mess.

What's Next

Following July 9th, 2025, the 10% tariff on imported goods from Japan, including Canon-branded products, may increase to 24%, if a trade agreement doesn't occur at the end of the 90-day pause. This could lead to more price increases for Canon cameras and lenses in the USA, possibly in the range of 16-24%.

Existing inventory could delay any immediate price changes but the increases will be more apparent in the second half of 2025 once the existing stock is exhausted. Canon has already indicated it will increase prices, but plans are continuing to be evaluated.

Overall this probably means less sales in the USA, as well as the possibility of Canon reallocating stock into inventories for other parts of the world. Global pricing could be threatened if tariffs lead to larger economic issues, but right now it is USA focused.
