Richard CanonNews / Thursday, March 25, 2021 / Categories: Canon Patents Canon Patent Application: Canon RF Cini Mount It appears as if Canon has been researching the RF mount as a serious cinema mount. Of course, this makes perfect sense as Canon is slowly migrating users from the EF mount to the RF mount, and that would include the EF users as well. There are many benefits of using the shorter backfocus mount, such as the ability to use adapters seamlessly, without having to perform an actual mount conversion. The item demonstrated in this patent application appears to be similar to the ME20F line of cameras that Canon has created in the past. They go into quite a bit of detail into the actual mechanics of the mount itself. This actual patent though, while demonstrating Canon CINI products could also be used in Canon cameras as well. The gist of the patent application is to provide another means to "locking" the lens onto the mount using a standard bayonet mount (ie: the Canon RF mount). At times, you can get into the position where the lens is too tight on the mount, or too loose. Canon seems to be looking into means of reducing this problem and providing a better mounting consistency and a stronger mount as well. Of course embodiments are not actual proof that Canon is working on an actual product, but a good indication in ones like this that it's under careful consideration, otherwise Canon would have put up a generic ILC image. As with any patent applications we bring these forward to show what Canon was looking at and researching, it may nor may not end up in an actual product.
