Canon rumors today posted some M6 Mark II specifications; 32.5 mp APS-C CMOS sensor (new sensor technology for higher dynamic range) DIGIC 8+ Imaging Processor 4K up to 30p (with no crop or 1.3x no pixel binning crop), Full HD up to 180p No Canon Log but new Movie Picture Style Dual Pixel AF Focus Guide New Selfie mode and Vlog mode Enhanced Movie IS High-speed continuous shooting at a maximum of 16 FPS (with AE/AF) RAW Burst mode at 30 FPS (with AE/AF) Dual Pixel AF with expanded area Eye AF (tracking possible) Electronic shutter 1/16000s Focus Bracketing Supports external electronic viewfinder USB-C charge power supply These seem like fantastic specifications, and also the external viewfinder is more in line to what I'd expect from the M6 Mark II. How possible is this? Well, a DIGIC 8+ processor could buy a lot more processing power than the DIGIC 8's that have been used for the last year. Combined with a faster sensor it's certainly possible it may hit 16 fps at 32.5MP. I'm not so sure about the RAW burst mode though. My understanding is that this would require memory upstream, such as with the Sony stacked sensors in the G7X Mark III and the G5X Mark II. Could this be an indication that the new sensor is stacked with memory? That would be at least a two-generation leap by Canon if that was the case. The 4K no crop makes a lot of sense because the cropping factor would be closer to 1.85x if it was 1:1 pixel readout which would drive the internet, literally insane if that happened. While rumors this far out from release (literally a month away) are usually fairly inaccurate, there have been cases in the past when they have been actually fairly close. However, these specifications feel "too good to be true". Can (and will) Canon put everything it can into the EOS M lineup and come up with a dual camera body release (M5 and M6) that punches completely above its weight class, and even more than the EOS R system to date? We know that in Asia according to Canon, the EOS M has been a remarkable success story for Canon - it's all together possible they decided to put some real muscle behind the camera line. A point to ponder though, this camera is not a camera in which you would attach slow small consumer zooms to. Canon would need to come out with a fairly high end kit lens, and release a few primes just to match up well with the camera body. The EOS M system would literally be the reverse scenario of the M where you have very consumer lenses, and what would amount to be nearly a professional specced camera body, versus the EOS RF system where you have professional lenses, and more consumer camera bodies. As an admitted fan of the EOS M system since it's inception (some would say I need intervention because of it) that part of me, really likes this rumor, however, I think we have to wait until we get more correlated information before getting caught up with this one.
