Going by the 50mm 1.4 design in the patent application, it's to existing designs and not new designs, and discussing simply adding an apodization filter into the lens, and making a new variant. Similar to what Canon is doing with the Canon RF 85mm 1.2. This patent application also seems to be attempting at reducing the light transmittance loss that occurs when you add in the apodization filter and correction for non-uniform light transmittance across the image. In this patent application we see the apodization filter applied to the following lenses; Canon EF 50mm 1.4 Canon EF 24mm 1.4 Canon EF 35mm 1.4 Canon EF 135mm 2.0 I think it's probably highly unlikely we'll see Canon release all these "DS" lenses, however stranger things have happened.
