Canon Patent Application: More on how IBIS + IS will work together

I think it's pretty much a given that at some time Canon will come out with an IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) camera.  Especially considering the rest of the market has gone that way,and right now Canon is the only vendor sitting on the sidelines without a current solution.  Also it seems certain that this system will be able to use IS (in lens stabilization) and IBIS at the same time to deliver better results.

Canon, however, certainly seems to have moved at a steady and careful pace, and has done a ton of research and development into IBIS, and it's various quirks, especially how it will relate to both IS and IBIS working together.

This patent application gets down into the nuts and bolts of IBIS and IS working together, and when the camera chooses to use either IBIS, or IS or the combination of IBIS and IS together.  Canon is suggesting this could be an iterative process.

In previous patent applications we described where low frequency shake is best handled by optical image stabilization in your lenses, while high frequency shake is handled by in body stabilization.  This patent application goes into shifting the separation frequency threshold between using either IBIS or IS to handle the shake until the image is appropriately stablized.

I also found interesting is that there is a ton of communication that is happening between the RF lenses and the Camera body with respects to IBIS and IS. Each lens has both an IS unit to image stabilize the unit, but also has a shake detection unit to also detect and send back to the camera body the fact that the lens itself is shaking.
