Canon Patent Application: Stacked Sensor heat management

In this patent application, Canon is attempting to manage the heat in the processing layers.  As the stacked sensor layers thin, there are more chances that each layer can contribute more to the heat in the sensor.  The hotter the sensor operates, the less optimal the image quality is.

In this patent application, Canon has multiple processing units on the second layer, and control logic.  Depending on the region of interest in the image, the control logic manages the power consumption between the various image processing units based upon the region of the interest.
