Canon Announces the R6 Mark III Canon’s latest release, the Canon EOS R6 Mark III, announced on November 6, 2025, marks a significant leap forward for hybrid photographers and videographers. This full-frame mirrorless camera, succeeding the R6 Mark II, combines advanced imaging capabilities with robust video features, making it a versatile tool for professionals and enthusiasts alike. Equipped with a 32.5-megapixel CMOS sensor (35.9 x 23.9 mm), up from the Mark II’s 24.2 megapixels, it delivers sharper images with a native ISO range of 100-64,000, expandable to 50-102,400. Despite a reduced maximum ISO compared to its predecessor’s 204,800, the higher resolution ensures exceptional detail. The camera’s weather-sealed magnesium alloy chassis, measuring 138.4 x 98.4 x 88.4 mm and weighing 609g (body only), offers durability and portability for demanding shoots. Performance is a standout feature of the R6 Mark III. It supports continuous shooting at 40 fps with the electronic shutter or 12 fps with the mechanical/electronic first-curtain shutter, buffering up to 150 RAW frames or 330 JPEGs on CFexpress Type B cards. The enhanced pre-continuous shooting mode captures 20 frames before a full shutter press in RAW, JPEG, or HEIF, expanding on the Mark II’s RAW-only capability. With 8.5 stops of in-body stabilization (CIPA-rated) and 7.5 stops for peripheral correction on wide-angle lenses, the camera ensures steady shots in challenging conditions. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, boasting 6,097 autofocus points for stills and 4,641 for video, operates effectively from EV -6.5 to 21 (stills) or -4 to 21 (video) at ISO 100, delivering fast and accurate subject tracking. Video capabilities elevate the R6 Mark III to a professional-grade tool. It records 7K RAW Light (6912 x 4640) at up to 59.94 fps (12-bit), ProRes RAW at 29.97 fps, oversampled 4K UHD/DCI at 120 fps, and Full HD at 180 fps. Open Gate 7K at 30p supports vertical framing, ideal for social media content creation. Features like Canon Log 2/3 with 15 stops of dynamic range, waveform monitoring, metadata tagging, 4-channel audio, and a full-size HDMI port streamline video workflows. Bitrates reach 2,600 Mbps for 7K RAW, with proxy support, though modes above 100 fps are limited to 2 hours. Storage is handled by one CFexpress Type B slot (up to 8 TB) and one UHS-II SD slot. The camera features a 3.69m-dot OLED EVF with 0.76x magnification and 100% coverage, paired with a 3-inch, 1.62m-dot vari-angle touchscreen for intuitive control. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, and a multi-function shoe. The LP-E6P battery provides approximately 620 shots per charge. Compared to the R6 Mark II, the Mark III offers a higher-resolution sensor, advanced video resolutions, and improved stabilization, though it comes at a higher price point of $2,799 (body only) versus $2,300.
