Apple confirms 8K Canon Cinema RAW Light coming soon

Apply updated Final Cut Pro X and in the release notes they stated

This release also introduces significant performance improvements with new Metal-enabled plug-ins for RED RAW and Canon Cinema RAW Light. Transcoding 8K RED RAW video to ProRes 422 is up to two times faster on Mac Pro, and up to three times faster on MacBook Pro. And for the first time, Final Cut Pro editors can play and edit 8K Canon Cinema RAW Light.

So this means one of two things;

  1. The R5 is getting a RAW light upgrade
  2. Canon is very soon releasing a Cinema 8K camera.

There have been rumors that the R5 is getting an upgrade that will include RAW light, but no word from Canon yet.

I would hope that if they do a video firmware update to the R5, that they sort out the overheating nonsense that seems to be happening with the camera.
