I'm sure this patent application will cause some to lose their minds given all I have seen about F7.1 lately. However, I do think something like this would make a nice little consumer zoom. The embodiment shown has two focus groups, and only 14 elements, so it should be relatively light and more on the consumer end of things. F7.1 seems to be the new F5.6, as with this patent Canon goes to F7.1 on the long end. Edit: It totally skipped by me that this is an APS-C lens because the image height is 13.66mm. This is kind of an odd duck patent application either meant for the RF mount or the EOS-M mount. It seems unlikely it would for the EOS-M mount considering they seem to be diameter constrained at 61mm in diameter. However, technically an F7.1 360mm would have around a 52mm front element, so it's possible that this is for the EOS-M mount, but I'm not sure with dual focus groups and a longer zoom that the body shell could be made to still fit within the 61mm diameter limit, but it's possible that Canon's considering a long focal zoom for the EOS-M mount. That would make it an interesting lens for the M6 Mark II.
