Canon Patent Application: Canon RF 50-82mm high performance zoom lens

A pretty crazy design for a full frame mirrorless zoom lens has appeared from Canon.  There are several embodiments in this patent application and some of them are most likely not going to work out for the Canon RF mount, as the ingress into the mount, even though it's mirrorless and there's nothing back there, is rather significant.

Canon is expected to continue to do crazy lenses with the Canon RF mount, could this patent application show something about what they are looking at? Hard to say..

These are the more probable for the Canon RF, sitting with a normal back focus distance of around 25mm, with wide-open aperture ranging from F1.2 to F1.8 - essentially the larger the wide-open aperture, the larger the lens is.

And finally, we get into the more esoteric and most likely improbable lenses, with some even more impressive element designs, including an F1.1
