Canon Patent Application: New EVF optics

Canon has applied for a patent with updated EVF optics.  According to Canon the purpose of this patent application is to;

The eyepiece optical system used for this purpose is required to have a high optical performance with a sufficiently large observation field (high magnification), a long eye relief, and various aberrations corrected well in order to improve visibility. Yes. Furthermore, imaging devices such as cameras are miniaturized, and an observation device used for these imaging devices is required to use a relatively small image display element whose diagonal length of the image display surface of the image display element is 20 mm or less.

Currently, Canon is using .5" displays for their EVF's so this fits in with most of Canon's current camera EVF systems.
