New Rumor: Canon to do a 150MP EOS R5s

A new rumor has surfaced about the possibility that Canon will put out a 150MP Canon R5s.  No other details were given.

150MP would certainly stretch Canon's capability to produce a fast, and high dynamic range sensor.

Consider that Canon's APS-C sensors are using 180nm and their full-frame sensors as far as we know are still using 300nm.

Canon did announce the development of a 120MP DSLR in September 2015.  They never delivered this camera, while it's certainly possible they could have simply moved that project over the mirrorless RF system, there's a good chance that Canon was never designing that 120MP sensor with DPAF pixels.  But it's certainly a possibility that they have continued the research and development and upped the sensor to 150MP.  Maybe Canon feels the need to finally come out with a 120MP or a 150MP mirrorless for the 2020 Canon Expo.

A few problems with 150MP though is that even with hyper fast DIGIC X we're still looking at around a pedestrian 6 fps.  That's going to be a tough sell against the do-it-all high megapixel cameras such as the Sony A7R IV.

I had thought that Canon may go over 100MP just so they could beat out the GFX 100 at the same time, so they could claim the high MP crown even against 44x33 sensor size.  However, 150MP I think is a little too high.

But I'd certainly buy it ;)

Time will tell...
