New Rumor: #FreeTheR5 - happening early July A moment we've all been waiting for is rumored to be happening soon. The R5 is now rumored to be officially launched along side the R6 in early July. This would more or less still be consistent with the earlist of rumors that suggested a "before Olympics" release date. So even with the disruption caused by COVID-19, it seems that Canon is trying to stick with the initial scheduling. This is a good thing for both the cameras and also other cameras and lenses that may be coming later this year and into next year. However, because of COVID-19, inventory is rumored to be low during the initial release. I've also seen reports that dealers are stating that the pre-order lists are already crazy for the R5 and that they've seen nothing like it since the 5D Mark II. Expect epic backorders when this is released, but Canon has industry-leading automated assembly lines, and also the best distribution network of any of the camera companies, so as long as they can source parts, they should be able to catch up quickly.
