Panasonic Announces the S1II and the S1IIE Panasonic held a YouTube livestream on May 13, 2025, where new Lumix products were debuted. The event unveiled two full-frame mirrorless cameras—the S1II and S1IIE—new L-mount lens, and firmware for the Lumix S1RII. This account, in a technical and dry style for technical reviews, summarizes the announcements and their relevance to the mirrorless camera industry. The Lumix S1II and S1IIE are designed for hybrid content creators who need camera and videography equipment. Both feature a 24-megapixel partially stacked CMOS sensor with 4K 60p uncropped video and a wide dynamic range for various lighting situations. The S1II is a do-it-all hybrid camera for applications like portraits and short films. The S1IIE has a barebones design, targeted at customers who desire fewer features but maintain basic performance. Both cameras utilize phase-detection autofocus, an upgrade over the S1 series' contrast-detection. It allows for improved subject tracking for moving subjects in action scenes. These capabilities place the S1II and S1IIE in the mid-to-high-end mirrorless ranks. Panasonic also unveiled a new L-mount standard zoom lens, a 24-60mm f/2.8, for its L-mount system, which is also common to Leica and Sigma. The lens has a fast f/2.8 aperture to facilitate low-light image capture and depth-of-field control, and it is compatible with the S1II, S1IIE, and other L-mount cameras. The new addition is part of the L-mount lens family. An upgrade to the firmware of the Lumix S1RII added 8.1K Open Gate recording and ARRI LogC3 support. Reframing in post is offered by Open Gate format, while ARRI LogC3 offers compatibility with professional cinema pipelines. The update is designed to bring the S1RII up to date for video professionals. The announcement came during a string of tech announcements, making for an active news week. Panasonic's pre-Christmas timing appears aimed at the holiday shopper. The S1II and S1IIE address the requirement for hybrid cameras that can perform well in both still photography and video, and the L-mount lens and S1RII refresh address the requirement for support of the Lumix ecosystem. The new lenses and cameras focus on hybrid capability, improved autofocus and video performance. The S1RII firmware update targets video consumers. The products position Panasonic in the competitive mirrorless market. Additional information is found via Panasonic's official Lumix channels. Pre-orders for the S1II and S1IIE are available now, with the S1RII firmware update later in 2025. Preorders Panasonic S1 II - $3197.99 Panasonic S1 IIE - $2497.99 Press Release Newark, N.J.
