Reports of a Canon RF 85mm F2.0

A recent rumor from CanonRumors suggests that a Canon RF 85mm F2.0 will be announced in 2020.  The source, according to CanonRumors, also states that a lineup of F2.0 and F2.8 non L primes with IS are coming over the next 12 months.  The lineup is supposed to start at around 18mm and go to 85mm.

If you look back to the history of the start of the EF mount, Canon did pay attention to the consumers with primes.  The EF mount was announced in 1986 and pretty much right away Canon started to do consumer primes

  • 1987 - Canon EF 50mm F1.8
  • 1987 - Canon EF 28mm F2.8
  • 1988 - Canon EF 24mm F2.8
  • 1990 - Canon EF 35mm F2.0

The Canon EF 85mm F1.8 (shown above) was released in 1992, essentially completing the Canon EF prosumer prime list.
