I could be mistaken but it's been quite a bit of time since the last batch of video cameras have come out for Canon. The XF705 was in December 2018, and the XA50 and XA55 were released in April 2019. Here we are now waiting for NAB in October of 2021. So what this means is that there's probably going to be quite a bit of videocamera refreshes coming soon, starting with a camera that CanonRumors mentions in one of their latest rumors that is apparently sitting below the XF705. It is supposed to feature a 1" 4K sensor, include full HDMI ports, and feature similar codec options as the C70. In general, there are two events that I would expect Canon to make a splash at, so expect announcements in both photography and video leading into September. Photography Show and their corresponding smaller The Video Show is being held as usual in Birmingham UK but now on the dates of September 18-21st. Canon is also a sponsor of the show. I hope they decide to keep this date permanently since Photokina so oddly dropped the ball here, as spreading out some of the shows from the January to April time slots would be great for the industry. I'll admit I don't know all the facts, and at times I'm not the smartest in the bunch but I still wonder what Photokina was thinking here. The R3 is expected to be fully announced before this show. Following this up is NAB, with the show moved from its normal time frame of April to this year being held October 9 to 13, in Las Vegas USA. As the premier videography conference, this is where Canon's cinema lineup usually gets announced at. But with the show in the UK not even 3 weeks before, expect Canon to use both shows to highlight new and interesting products. These are the first major events since COVID-19 shuttered them all or turned them virtual, so I expect Canon to make a splash.
