DJI Announces the RS 5

The DJI RS 5, the latest lightweight commercial gimbal, is the latest model in the popular and highly acclaimed DJI Ronin series of gimbals. It was officially launched on January 29, 2026. After the exclusive China market launch, the latest model is set to offer videographers, filmmakers, content creators, run-and-gun shooters of mirrorless and DSLR-based cinema cameras, and other professionals and enthusiasts an improved experience in terms of stabilization, features, and efficiency.

The latest model, the DJI RS 5, is an improvement on the previous models. It comes equipped with the latest fifth generation of DJI's already impressive stabilization technology, which offers a 50% increase in the maximum torque of the gimbal motors, thus providing a much smoother experience, especially when shooting dynamic movements such as walking, running, or quick camera pan, and even when moving the camera from a horizontal to a vertical position.

In addition, the latest model is much better at responding to footsteps. Other notable improvements on the previous model include the presence of fine-tuning knobs with Teflon™ coating, the introduction of the new Z axis indicator to help eliminate camera shake when shooting vertically, the second generation of the automated axis locks for power-up and power-down, and low friction axes, which make balancing the camera and gimbal combo easier. It is also worth noting that the latest model comes equipped with the optional RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, which is available in the combo kit and as a separate accessory for approximately £75. This allows videographers to select the subject on the screen of the gimbal itself, rather than relying on the smartphone, which is particularly useful in the effortless tracking of people, cars, pets, and any other object of interest at distances of up to 10 meters.

Battery Life: Another area that has seen significant improvements is the battery life. Now you can charge the RS 5 in just an hour, which is a 60% improvement over the RS 4. There is also a 15% increase in the battery life for up to 14 hours with the standard BG33 Battery Grip. But of course, there is the option of extending the battery life with extended grips that can now go up to 30 hours.

The gimbal can now support a 3kg load (6.6 lbs), making it suitable for mainstream full-frame mirrorless cameras and lighter cinema cameras. There is also the added advantage of a relatively light weight of 1.46kg with the battery grip and quick-release plates.

There are also new accessories that can be bought for the gimbal. The Electronic Briefcase Handle is available for a cost of about £59. This is useful for comfortable low mode shooting as well as a briefcase mode that has built-in controls for the gimbal. There is also the advantage of vertical shooting without the need for additional equipment.

The standard kit is available for a cost of £485, which comes with the gimbal, quick-open tripod, quick-release plates, as well as cables.

The new DJI RS 5 is available for purchase now at B&H Photo, among other retailers.
