Laowa to announce a RF 12-24 F5.6

Venus Optics through it's Laowa brand is certainly releasing interesting products lately.  There's already a few on my "must have" list once I finally get that unicorn of cameras, the EOS R5s., and now here's another.

Venus optics is going to announce a Full frame 12-24mm F5.6 that will most certainly be light in the land (497g) and hopefully light on the pocketbook as well. If it falls in with the other Laowa lenses, you can expect good performance for your dollar as well.

The leaked specs from Sony Addict are as follows;

Laowa 12-24mm f/5.6 Specifications:

  • Supported formats: Full size

  • Focal length: 12-24mm
  • Aperture: F5.6-F22
  • Angle of view: 121.9 ° -84 °
  • Lens configuration: 15 elements in 11 groups (2 aspherical elements, 3 ED lenses)
  • Aperture blade: 5 pieces
  • Shortest shooting distance: 15cm
  • Maximum shooting magnification: 0.4x
  • Size: φ69.4 × 74mm
  • Weight: 497g
  • Mount: Leica M, Nikon Z, Sony E, Canon RF

I find the magnification of .4x to also provide some interesting use cases that you wouldn't necessarily have before in a super ultra wide lens.

No word on the announcement date, however, CP+ is coming up in 6 weeks, so it's most likely we'll hear more before then.

Update

Some presentation materials have surfaced (thanks impulses) showing what the lens looks like and the MTF and element design.  One thing to note on the presentation materials is that it's a 77mm front filter.
